I began writing a series of blogs in 2018 after my son Dalton gave me a blog spot for Christmas. He noted at the time that he was tired of waiting for me to write “the book” he had heard about for many years. So, that was the impetus for launching “A Little Piece of Heaven.” My goal was to write a couple blogs each month. I published 30 by the end of October 2019 and decided to take a break to consider “the book” seriously. I developed drafts for 17 additional blogs, many of which I intended to publish in 2019. My plan all along was to include all or most of these blogs in “the book” sometime in the future.
An interesting and encouraging aside occurred in 2018, however, after publishing a few blogs when I began to get responses from readers who somehow had become linked to the blogs. But they were not just readers. They included childhood friends from 60-plus years ago; neighbors of our many neighborhoods in South Carolina and Georgia; former business friends who seemed astonished that I could write a complete sentence; a teacher who taught me how to write a complete sentence; “old” high school and grammar school classmates; children and siblings of friends; and, most special, my own children and grandchildren. Every response was exhilarating for me.
I have no visions of grandeur for this project. Instead, I hope the blogs and eventually “the book” provide – primarily for my children and grandchildren – insights into what life has been like for their Dad/Grandad and Mom/Gram. If they choose to take lessons from the accounts, so be it. If, instead, they choose simply to enjoy a smile or laugh while reading, then my goal would be accomplished.
So, the blogs will continue and they will birthe “the book” some day, the Lord willing. All blogs are accessible at dickhuguley.com with the most recent blog always appearing first and followed by all previous blogs.
Thank you for your interest and responses.
